Compassionate Doula Care for Your Birth at Headwaters Health Care Centre & Beyond

Navigating your pregnancy journey in the beautiful Dufferin-Caledon region requires a support team that understands the local landscape. Whether you are planning a hospital birth at Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) in Orangeville or envisioning a serene homebirth in the rolling hills of Caledon, I am here to provide the steady, mindful presence you deserve.

I work collaboratively with the Midwives of Headwater Hills and local obstetricians to ensure that your birth plan is respected and your voice is heard. My experience with the LDRP (Labour, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum) suites at Headwaters allows me to help you transform a clinical setting into a peaceful sanctuary using comfort measures, soft lighting, and focused breathwork.

For families throughout Orangeville, Caledon East, Bolton, and Shelburne, I offer a bridge between medical care and emotional wellness. From the quiet villages of Alton and Palgrave to the growing communities in Mono and Grand Valley, I provide:

  • Evidence-based advocacy during your labour at HHCC.

  • Specialized waterbirth support for home births in Dufferin County.

  • Continuous physical and emotional coaching to help you navigate the "Hills of Headwaters" healthcare system with confidence.

Whether this is your first baby or you are adding to your family, my goal is to promote mindful decision-making and self-advocacy. By fostering a deep connection with local midwifery groups and the Orangeville medical community, I ensure that your transition into parenthood is met with peacefulness, resilience, and expert care tailored to the unique needs of families in Southern Ontario.

About the Doula

Leah Jackson (PDCCE)

With 10 years of experience supporting families through all of life's transitions, I bring a grounded, evidence-based approach to your birth team. As a trained Waterbirth Support Person through Waterbirth International, I am particularly passionate about the comfort and flow that water provides during labor. My familiarity with the teams at Headwaters and the local midwifery groups allows me to integrate seamlessly into your care, prioritizing your peacefulness and mindful decision-making above all else.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Choosing a doula is a deeply personal decision. While there are many wonderful support people in Ontario, my practice is built on a foundation of 10 years of professional experience and a commitment to highly specialized, evidence-based care. Here is what sets my support apart:

    • Twin & Preemie Expertise: I bring extensive experience in supporting families through higher-complexity journeys, including multiples (twins) and premature births. I understand the unique physiological and emotional needs of preemie parents and can help you navigate the specialized environment of the NICU with confidence and peace.

    • Dual Childbirth Certifications: In addition to my foundational doula training, I hold an additional childbirth certification and have completed specialized Waterbirth Support Person training through Waterbirth International. This means my toolkit for labour comfort and prenatal education is exceptionally deep, offering you more than just standard support.

    • A Strictly Evidence-Based Approach: My practice is rooted in the most current, high-quality research. I don't just offer opinions; I provide the information and data you need to make mindful, informed decisions that are right for your specific body and baby. Whether you are navigating a medical induction or planning a physiologic home birth, you can trust that the guidance I offer is grounded in fact.

    • Holistic Professionalism: I am not just a doula; I am a meditation teacher and a professional photographer. This allows me to offer a "full-circle" experience—providing the emotional grounding you need during labour, the technical expertise to capture your baby’s first moments on a professional Fujifilm system, and the sleep coaching expertise to help your family thrive once you’re home.

  • Yes! Headwaters is a wonderful community hospital, and I am very familiar with their Obstetrics unit. I support families birthing with both OBGYNs and the Midwives of Headwater Hills at HHCC, helping you utilize the LDRP rooms to create a birth environment that feels personal and peaceful.

  • I work as a complementary partner to your midwifery team. While your midwives focus on the medical safety of you and your baby, I focus on your continuous emotional and physical comfort. Whether you are at home or at Headwaters, we work as a unified team to support your birth choices.

  • Absolutely. I travel throughout Caledon, including Bolton, Palgrave, and Caledon East, for in-home newborn and maternity sessions. Using a professional Fujifilm system, I capture "film-style" digital images that focus on the raw connection and soft details of your new life together.

  • In a home birth setting in Orangeville or Caledon, your midwives are your primary medical providers. I attend strictly as your doula to provide non-medical support such as hip squeezes, position suggestions, and emotional grounding. I also provide the birth pool and handle the logistics of its setup so your birth space remains a sanctuary.

  • Yes. I proudly serve families in Mono, Shelburne, Erin, Alton, and Grand Valley. If you are within the "Hills of Headwaters" region, I am here for you!

  • While the nurses and doctors at Headwaters provide excellent medical care, they are often managing several patients at once. As your birth doula, I provide continuous physical and emotional support from the moment you are admitted to the HHCC Obstetrics unit until after your baby arrives. I help you navigate the LDRP suites, suggest optimal laboring positions to help baby descend, and ensure your partner feels confident in their supporting role, making the entire hospital experience feel more intimate and personalized.

  • Yes. Many families in the Bolton and Caledon East areas struggle with the "fourth trimester" transition. I offer overnight postpartum care where I come into your home to handle newborn soothing, diaper changes, and feeding support (whether you are breastfeeding or bottle-feeding). This allows parents in the Dufferin-Caledon region to get the deep, restorative sleep necessary for a healthy recovery, while knowing their baby is in the hands of an experienced 10-year professional.

  • Yes. Providing queer-affirming birth and postpartum care is a core value of Doula By The Bay. Whether you are a solo parent, a same-sex couple, or using a surrogate in the Orangeville and Caledon area, I am dedicated to ensuring you feel respected, celebrated, and safely supported throughout your entire journey into parenthood.

  • Absolutely. A "Fresh 48" session is a documentary-style photography shoot captured within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. For families birthing at Headwaters in Orangeville, I can capture those first raw, beautiful moments of meeting your baby right in your hospital room. Using a quiet Fujifilm system, I focus on the tiny details—the hospital bracelets, the first snuggles, and the newness of your family—without the "posed" feel of traditional studio photography.

  • Yes! My 3-hour in-home childbirth education class is fully customizable. For twin parents, we pivot the curriculum to focus on the specifics of a multiples birth, including positions for laboring with two, what to expect if a C-section becomes necessary, and how to prepare for the postpartum logistics of bringing home two babies at once.
