The “Doula’s Lens” Advantage
There is a unique rhythm to a birth room. As a doula, I don't just see a photo opportunity; I understand the sacredness of the space. My approach is 'fly-on-the-wall'—using professional Fujifilm equipment to capture the grain, the light, and the emotion of your story without interrupting the flow of your experience.

About The Doula Behind the Lens
Meeting You in the Magic and the Mess
I have spent the last decade walking alongside families as they navigate the most transformative moments of their lives. As a Doula, I’ve learned that birth isn't just an event—it’s a series of quiet, powerful shifts. As your photographer, my goal is to document those shifts without ever disturbing the peace of your room.
Why a Doula-Photographer?
Most photographers are guests in your birth space; as a doula, I am a part of the team. I understand the physiology of labour, the importance of "low and slow" lighting, and the sacredness of a first breath.
I don't use intrusive flashes or heavy equipment that breaks the "oxytocin bubble." Instead, I use high-end, professional Fujifilm systems—celebrated for their incredible low-light performance and skin-tone accuracy—to capture your story exactly as it felt: warm, authentic, and cinematic.
My Signature Style
I lean away from the "perfectly posed" and toward the perfectly real. My editing style is inspired by the timeless look of classic film—rich in grain, deep in soul, and available in both evocative black & white and natural colour.
Whether I am documenting the power of a home birth, the quiet awe of a "Fresh 48" in-hospital photography session at RVH, or providing a compassionate record for a family experiencing loss, I bring 10 years of birth-work intuition to every shutter click.
I don't just take pictures of what happened; I capture how it felt to be there.
FAQs
How does "On-Call" work for birth photography?
1
Birth is unpredictable, and I am ready for that. When you book a birth story, I am officially "on-call" for you starting at 37 weeks until your baby arrives. This means my gear is packed, my batteries are charged, and I am available 24/7 to head to your home or hospital in Collingwood (CGMH), Barrie (RVH), or your intended birthing location once you are in active labour.
What if my labour is very long—or very fast?
2
As a doula of 10 years, I am no stranger to the "marathon" birth. There are no hourly surcharges for birth coverage; I stay until the story is told (typically up to 2 hours postpartum). If things move quickly, I head out the door as soon as you call. In the rare event of a "precipitous birth" where I miss the delivery, we transition your package into an extended "Fresh 48" or a lifestyle newborn session.
Do you take photos of the "crowning" or "gore"?
3
I shoot through a documentary lens, which means I capture the raw reality of birth. However, we will discuss your comfort levels in detail during our consultation. Some families want the crowning and the “placenta tour” captured, while others prefer the focus to be on their facial expressions, their partner’s support, and the first skin-to-skin contact. I follow your lead.
What if my baby is crying or "not cooperating" during our session?
4
As a doula, I have a "baby-first" philosophy. We are on baby time, not a clock. If your little one needs to cluster feed, have a diaper change, or just needs a long cuddle to settle, we pause. My Fujifilm system is designed for candid, lifestyle moments—some of the most beautiful photos come from the quiet snuggles used to soothe a fussy baby. There is no such thing as a "bad" baby; there is only the real, honest beauty of early parenthood.
Do you travel outside of Collingwood and Barrie?
5
Yes! While I primarily offer photography services in the Georgian Bay and Simcoe County area (including Stayner, Wasaga Beach, Barrie, and Angus), I also service Toronto and the GTA. I am happy to travel to surrounding communities including Orangeville and Caledon, Brampton, Aurora and Newmarket, Orillia and the Muskoka region.. Travel fees may apply for locations more than 50 km outside of my typical doula-photography work zone, but don't hesitate to reach out—I love capturing stories in new spaces.
What is "Film-Style" digital photography?
6
While I shoot on high-end digital equipment (ensuring your photos are backed up and safe), I edit with a "film-first" aesthetic. This means your images will have a timeless, nostalgic quality—think soft grains, organic skin tones, and evocative Black & White edits—rather than the "over-processed" or "bright and airy" look of traditional digital wedding photography.
Do you offer photography for loss and bereavement?
7
Yes. I provide compassionate, professional documentation for families experiencing stillbirth, neonatal loss or loss of a parent or grandparent. These sessions are handled with the utmost sanctity and priority. I offer these photoshoots in home, hospice and hospital in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Barrie and surrounding areas. Please contact me directly for these services; I often offer them as a community service.
Ready to document your story?
Whether you are planning a home birth in Collingwood or bringing your newborn home in Barrie, I’d love to be the one behind the lens. Space is limited each month to ensure I can remain on-call for my birth clients. Inquire below about your dates!
