While no outcome is guaranteed, studies consistently show that continuous labour support from a doula reduces the likelihood of a repeat Cesarean. In Barrie and Collingwood, I work with you on optimal fetal positioning and advocacy techniques to help your labour progress effectively.
-
Yes. Many families at Headwaters Health Care Centre successfully have VBACs. I help you navigate the conversations with your OB or midwife team to ensure your birth preferences are understood and respected within the hospital setting.
-
My support is "outcome-neutral." If a repeat C-section becomes the safest path, I stay with you to provide Family-Centered Cesarean support, focusing on immediate skin-to-skin and a calm, mindful environment in the OR at CGMH or RVH.
-
Absolutely. I travel to families across Orangeville, Muskoka, and the surrounding Simcoe County area to provide both prenatal preparation and in-hospital birth support.
-
Yes! Doulas and midwives are a "dream team" for VBACs. While your midwife manages the clinical safety of you and your baby, I focus exclusively on your emotional regulation, physical comfort, and continuous support. This collaborative approach is very common for families I support in Muskoka, Orangeville, Barrie and Collingwood.

My approach is a blend of clinical preparation and rhythmic, mindful support. We utilize a toolkit designed to keep you grounded and your baby moving. Key elements include:
Optimal Fetal Positioning & Peanut Ball: I utilize specific Peanut Ball positioning and Yoga Birth movements to open the pelvis. This is especially critical for VBACs at RVH and CGMH, as it helps the baby navigate the birth canal efficiently, reducing the need for medical intervention.
Waterbirth International Training: As a Waterbirth International trained support person, I am expertly equipped to assist you with hydrotherapy. Whether you are labouring in a tub at HHCC, planning a home waterbirth in the Blue Mountains, or utilizing a shower for pain management, I understand how to use water as a powerful tool for buoyancy and relaxation.
TENS & Massage: I provide TENS machine support for non-pharmacological nerve stimulation and therapeutic massage in labour, focusing on counter-pressure and rhythmic touch to lower cortisol levels.
Mindfulness & Somatic Grounding: We use mindfulness techniques to stay present during each surge, ensuring your nervous system remains regulated even during the most intense moments of labour.

The transition to pushing can often be a high-pressure environment in a hospital setting. This is where my role as your advocate becomes vital. I am there to:
Protect Your Birth Space: Ensuring the environment remains quiet and focused.
Advocate for Physiological Positions: I actively advocate for positions that maximize pelvic space, such as the Gaskin Maneuver (all fours) or side-lying, rather than the traditional lithotomy (back) position.
Informed Consent: I help facilitate communication between you and the medical team at HHCC, CGMH, or RVH, ensuring you have the time and space to make informed decisions during the final stages of your VBAC journey.
